Discover more about Mount Jumullong Summit

Mount Jumullong, sometimes shortened to Mount Jumullong Manglo, is located in the south-west of Guam and is the island's second-highest peak, rising 391 meters (1,283 ft) above sea level. The mountain offers a relatively easy to moderate hike with rewarding panoramic views. From the summit, hikers can see Cocos Island, Two Lover's Point, Hotel Row, and the cliffs of the Air Force base. The mountain holds cultural significance for the indigenous Chamorro people and is also a site of Catholic pilgrimage. The trails leading to the summit are lined with vibrant tropical plants and offer opportunities for bird watching. The 14 white crosses along the trail mark the Stations of the Cross, representing events leading up to Jesus' crucifixion. A grotto dedicated to the Virgin Mary provides a space for prayer and reflection. Every Good Friday, a large crowd of Catholic followers participate in a reenactment of Jesus' crucifixion by carrying a heavy cross up the mountain. The tradition has resulted in a collection of crosses at the summit. The limestone found on Mount Jumullong provides evidence that the peaks were once close enough to the ocean for coral to grow on them.
