Car
If you are traveling by car, start from Lethem, which is one of the main towns in Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo. Head south on the main road (the Takutu Road) towards Bonasika Creek. After approximately 30 kilometers, turn onto the unpaved road that leads to Bonasika Creek. Follow this road for about 15 kilometers until you reach the creek. Make sure to drive carefully, as the road may have potholes and could be slippery during the rainy season. There is no entry fee to access Bonasika Creek.
Public Transportation
If you prefer public transportation, catch a minibus or taxi from Lethem heading towards the direction of Bonasika. Confirm with the driver that they can drop you off near Bonasika Creek, as not all drivers may be familiar with it. The fare is approximately GYD 500 to GYD 1000. After being dropped off, you may need to walk the last few kilometers along the unpaved road leading to Bonasika Creek. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes, as the terrain might be uneven.
Local Guide
For a more immersive experience, consider hiring a local guide from Lethem. They can provide transportation in their vehicle and offer insights about the area. The cost for a guide is generally around GYD 3000 to GYD 5000 for the day, and they can help navigate the roads and point out interesting sights along the way to Bonasika Creek.
