If you are traveling by car, start your journey from Lethem, the largest town in the Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo region. Head south on the Takutu Road (also known as the Lethem to Bonfim Road) for approximately 8 kilometers until you reach the junction for the Ireng River. Look for signs indicating the direction to the Ireng River. Continue along the dirt road for another 10 kilometers until you reach the Ireng River. Depending on road conditions, the journey may take around 30 minutes.

To reach Ireng River via public transportation, take a minibus from Lethem to the border area near Bonfim, Brazil. The fare is usually around GYD 200-300. Inform the driver that you wish to get off at the junction for the Ireng River. From the drop-off point, you may need to hike or arrange for a local taxi or motorcycle taxi (known as 'bicycle taxi') that can take you the remaining distance of about 10 kilometers to the river.
