Head west on Route 1 (the Ring Road) for approximately 55 kilometers (about 34 miles) towards the Vatnajökull National Park area. Look for the sign for Route 998 leading to Skaftafell. Turn onto Route 998 and continue for about 10 kilometers (6 miles). Upon reaching the Skaftafell Visitor Center, you can park your car in the designated parking area. Note that parking fees may apply, typically around 750 ISK for a day. From the Visitor Center, the trail to Svartifoss starts.
