If you are driving, start from the nearest town, Egilsstaðir, which is about 90 km away from Askja. Head northwest on Route 1 (the Ring Road), and then take Route 910 towards the highlands. Continue on Route 910 until you reach the junction for Route 26. Turn onto Route 26 and follow the signs for Askja. The road can be rough, so a 4x4 vehicle is highly recommended. Follow Route 26 for approximately 40 km until you reach the Askja area. Please note that the last part of the journey involves unpaved roads and can be challenging, so drive carefully. Ensure you check road conditions before your trip.
