Car
From any location in the Highlands, make your way to Road F88, which is the main route through the area. If you are coming from Landmannalaugar or Þórsmörk, take F208 to connect with F88. Once on F88, continue heading north. After approximately 40 kilometers, you will reach the junction with F901. Take a left onto F901 and continue for about 15 kilometers. You will see signs leading to Dyngjufjoll. The last stretch will require driving on an unpaved road, so ensure your vehicle is suitable for off-road conditions. Park in designated areas near the trailhead.
Public Transportation
Currently, there are limited public transportation options directly to Dyngjufjoll. However, you can take a bus from Reykjavík to a nearby town like Hella or Selfoss, and then transfer to a local bus that goes towards the Highlands. Check with local bus companies for the latest schedules and routes. Once you arrive at the nearest drop-off point, you will need to hire a 4x4 taxi or join a guided tour to reach Dyngjufjoll, as public transport does not cover the unpaved roads leading directly to the mountain.
Hiking
If you're feeling adventurous and are already at a nearby campsite or lodge in the Highlands, consider hiking to Dyngjufjoll. The closest established hiking trail begins from the F88 road. Make sure you have a detailed map and proper gear. The hike can take several hours depending on your fitness level and the weather conditions.
