Travel Guide to Akureyri HI Hostel

Getting There

• Car

  If you're driving in the Northwestern Region, head towards Akureyri by taking Route 1 (the Ring Road). From the town of Blönduós, drive east for approximately 90 km until you reach Akureyri. Once in Akureyri, follow signs to the city center. When you arrive in Akureyri, turn onto Stórholt road, and the Akureyri HI Hostel will be located at 603, Stórholt 1, on your right side. There is parking available on-site.

• Public Transportation (Bus)

  To reach Akureyri HI Hostel using public transportation, take a bus from major towns in the Northwestern Region such as Blönduós or Sauðárkrókur. Check the bus schedules for destinations heading to Akureyri; the bus company Strætó operates services in this area. The journey can take approximately 2 to 3 hours depending on your starting point. Once you arrive at the Akureyri bus station, the hostel is about a 20-minute walk away. Head east on Hafnarstræti, then turn onto Stórholt and continue until you reach the hostel at 603, Stórholt 1.

• Taxi

  If you prefer a more direct route upon arriving in Akureyri, you can take a taxi from the Akureyri bus station or any location in the city. Taxis are available and can take you directly to Akureyri HI Hostel. The fare may vary, but expect to pay around 2000 ISK for the short trip from the bus station.
