From Selfoss, head to the local bus station, located centrally in the town. Check the schedule for buses heading towards Þingvellir National Park or Geysir, as these routes generally pass near Nesjavallavirkjun. Board the bus and pay attention to the stops. Request the driver to let you know when you reach the Nesjavellir area, as it may not be a formal stop. Once you get off the bus, walk approximately 2 kilometers towards the power station, following the signs or a map app for guidance.
Bicycle
Rent a bicycle from one of the local shops in Selfoss. Start from the town center and head east on Tryggvagata. Follow the road out of Selfoss and continue on Route 35 towards Þingvellir. After about 12 kilometers, you will see signs for Nesjavallavirkjun. Turn left at the sign and follow the road for about 3 kilometers until you reach the power station. Ensure you have a map or GPS handy, as the route can have few cyclists.
Walking
If you prefer walking, start from Selfoss town center and head east on Tryggvagata. Continue straight onto Route 35, which is approximately a 15-kilometer walk. This route is along the main highway, so it’s advisable to wear bright clothing for visibility. There are no direct paths, so stay on the side of the road and be aware of traffic. Once you approach the Nesjavellir area, you’ll see signs directing you to the power station. Be prepared for a long hike and carry water and snacks.
