If you are driving to Hells Canyon National Recreation Area, the primary access point is via Hells Canyon Road, located in Oxbow, OR. From the nearest major city, Boise, ID, take I-84 East to Exit 304 for US-95 North. Continue on US-95 North for about 65 miles until you reach the town of Cambridge, ID. From Cambridge, take ID-71 South for about 36 miles, which will lead you to Hells Canyon Road. Turn right onto Hells Canyon Road and follow it for approximately 10 miles, where you will reach the recreation area. Be aware that some sections of Hells Canyon Road may be gravel, and a high-clearance vehicle may be recommended. Parking is available at designated areas within the recreation area.

Public transportation options are limited to get directly to Hells Canyon National Recreation Area. The nearest major bus service is Greyhound, which operates routes to Baker City, OR. From Baker City, you can rent a car to reach Hells Canyon. The drive from Baker City to Hells Canyon is about 1.5 hours. Take OR-7 South, then connect to Hells Canyon Road as described above. Please note that public transit options may require advance planning and may not operate daily.
