Car
If you are driving from anywhere within Chain O'Lakes State Park, head south on Route 12 (Northwest Highway) until you reach the intersection with Route 50. Turn left onto Route 50 and continue for approximately 10 miles. Merge onto I-80 West toward Peru. Take exit 81 for IL-351 toward La Salle. Continue on IL-351 South until you reach A Street. Turn right onto A Street, and you will find the I&M Canal Boat at the intersection of A Street and the Illinois and Michigan Canal Trail.

Public Transportation
If you prefer to use public transportation, first, you will need to get to the nearest public transit station. The closest major station is in Fox Lake. From there, take the Metra Union Pacific/Northwest Line train towards Chicago. Transfer at the Elgin station to the Metra UP-W line toward Elburn. At the Aurora station, switch to the Metra BNSF Railway Line towards Chicago. Finally, get off at the La Salle station. From La Salle, it's a short taxi ride to the I&M Canal Boat located at the intersection of A Street and the Illinois and Michigan Canal Trail.

For a more adventurous route, consider biking from Chain O'Lakes State Park. Start on the main park roads heading south towards Route 12. Once on Route 12, follow the bike lanes to connect to the local trails that lead to the Illinois and Michigan Canal Trail.
