From the main parking area in Ferne Clyffe State Park, head north on Ferne Clyffe Road. Continue for about 1.5 miles until you reach the intersection with IL-145. Turn left onto IL-145 South and drive for approximately 6 miles. Look for signs indicating 'Heron Pond – Little Black Slough Nature Preserve.' Turn right onto a gravel road just before you reach Vienna. The preserve entrance will be on your right.
