    To reach Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge from Giant City State Park, start by exiting the park onto Giant City Road (IL-13) heading north. Continue on IL-13 for approximately 5 miles until you reach the intersection with IL-148. Turn left onto IL-148 and travel for about 3 miles. Take a right onto Grand Ave (IL-13) and continue for about 7 miles. You will see signs for Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge as you approach Carterville. The refuge entrance is located off of Route 13, and there is no entrance fee.

The closest hub is located in Carbondale, which is about 10 miles away. Once in Carbondale, you can take a Greyhound or other regional bus service to Carterville.
