Getting There

• Car

  From Matthiessen State Park, head south on IL-178 S for about 2.5 miles. Turn right onto E 6th Rd and continue for 1 mile. At the T-intersection, turn left onto N 25th Rd and proceed for about 1.5 miles. Turn right onto IL-71 W and drive approximately 3 miles. Follow the signs for the I&M Canal State Trail Access - Utica, which will be on your right. Parking is available at the trail access point.

• Public Transportation

  To reach I&M Canal State Trail Access - Utica from Matthiessen State Park using public transportation, you will need to first walk to the nearest bus stop located at the park entrance. Take the bus to the nearest town, which is Utica. From the Utica bus terminal, you can either walk about 1 mile north along N 25th Rd, or use a rideshare service like Uber or Lyft for convenience. The I&M Canal State Trail Access - Utica will be located at the end of N 25th Rd, just off IL-71 W.

• Biking/Walking

  If you prefer to bike or walk, exit Matthiessen State Park and take the same route as by car by heading south on IL-178 S. However, instead of turning onto E 6th Rd, continue straight to N 25th Rd and then follow the directions to IL-71 W. This route is approximately 7 miles round trip and can take around 1.5 to 2 hours depending on your pace.
