Discover more about Chaplin Creek Historic Village

Chaplin Creek Historic Village offers a glimpse into the past, showcasing a full-scale historical restoration of a prairie settlement from the mid-1800s. Founded and supported by the Franklin Grove Area Historical Society, the village is an evolving project with several historically significant buildings and artifacts relocated from the surrounding area. The village is developed around a crossroads named Timothy and Taylor, reflecting how many small communities were established. The name 'Chaplin' comes from the area's first settlement. Among the buildings are a blacksmith shop moved from Ashton, a saltbox-style house from west of Rochelle, and a typical country schoolhouse from north of Ashton. Visitors can explore charming homes, a traditional schoolhouse, and a quaint church, each offering a vivid representation of life in a bygone era. Special events, including reenactments and the Summer Harvest Festival, bring history to life. While the grounds are generally open, access to buildings may be limited except during events or by appointment.
