Founded in 1798, Golconda quickly became a significant economic hub, fueled by river trade. The town's name is inspired by the ancient Indian city of Golkonda, renowned for its formidable fort. Golconda also holds a place in American history as a site along the Trail of Tears. In 1838, approximately 13,000 Cherokee people were forced to cross the Ohio River here during their relocation to Oklahoma.
