Cubbon Park: Bengaluru's Green Heart
Escape to Bengaluru's iconic Cubbon Park: a historic green space with lush gardens, statues & serene atmosphere in the city center.
Cubbon Park, officially known as Sri Chamarajendra Park, is a landmark in Bengaluru's Central Business District, offering a green respite from the city's hustle. Created in 1870 by Major General Richard Sankey, the park originally spanned 100 acres. Over the years, it has expanded to cover approximately 300 acres. Initially named Meade's Park, it was later renamed Cubbon Park in honor of Sir Mark Cubbon. In 1927, it was renamed Sri Chamarajendra Park to commemorate the Silver Jubilee of Sri Krishnaraja Wodeyar's rule. However, the name Cubbon Park remains the popular choice. The park boasts a rich history and diverse flora, with over 6,000 trees and plants. It also houses several historical buildings and statues, including the Attara Kacheri (Karnataka High Court), the State Central Library, and statues of Queen Victoria, King Edward VII, Sir Mark Cubbon, and Sri Chamarajendra Wodeyar. Cubbon Park is a favorite among locals and tourists, offering walking paths, playgrounds, and open lawns. It's a popular spot for morning walks, picnics, and cultural events. The park is open to the public every day from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Entry to the park is free.
