Located a mere 5 km from Darjeeling, the Batasia Loop is more than just a railway track; it's a vibrant tapestry of history, engineering, and natural beauty. Commissioned in 1919 by the British, this ingenious spiral railway was designed to ease the steep descent of the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, a UNESCO World Heritage site, as it negotiates a 1,000-foot drop.The Toy Train, as it's lovingly called, gracefully loops around itself, treating passengers to a 360-degree spectacle of Darjeeling's rolling hills and the majestic Kanchenjunga range.
