Getting There

  • Car/Land Rover

    From Manebhanjan, the base village, hire a Land Rover or similar 4x4 vehicle to navigate the rough terrain towards Tonglu. The journey takes approximately 30-35 minutes to reach Tonglu. A shared Land Rover to Meghma, which is 2km from Tonglu, costs around INR 1,400. From Meghma, it's an hour's trek to Tonglu. Alternatively, a direct Land Rover to Tonglu (if available) may cost between INR 2,500 to INR 5,500, depending on the season and demand. Note that these vehicles are often the only option due to road conditions.

  • Trekking

    The trek to Tonglu typically starts from Dhotrey, about 44 km from Darjeeling. From Dhotrey, follow the marked trail through forests of pine and rhododendron. The trek is approximately 9 km and takes 4-5 hours. Permits for Singalila National Park are required and can be obtained in Manebhanjan or at the park entrance for approximately INR 100-200 per person. Hiring a guide is recommended and may cost INR 500-1,000 per day.
