When the Kashmiri Pandits sought his help, Guru Tegh Bahadur traveled to Delhi, where he and his companions were arrested. He was then beheaded at Chandni Chowk after refusing to convert to Islam. The gurudwara was initially established in 1783 as a small shrine by Baghel Singh to mark the site of Guru Tegh Bahadur's martyrdom. The current structure was constructed in 1930, showcasing a blend of Sikh and Mughal architectural influences. The main hall features a central canopy where the Guru Granth Sahib, the holy book of Sikhism, is enshrined.
