Dhirdham Temple: A Himalayan Sanctuary

Dhirdham Temple, located in Limbugaon, Darjeeling, is a captivating Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. Constructed in 1939 under the patronage of Rai Saheb Purna Bahadur Pradhan, a king of Nepal, the temple stands as a testament to Nepali architectural influences in the region. The temple's design, crafted by Gorkhali architect Beg Raj Sakya, bears a striking resemblance to the Pashupatinath Temple in Kathmandu, featuring a multi-layered pagoda-style structure. The roof's design is influenced by Tibetan monasteries.As you approach the temple, you're greeted by a white-colored statue of Lord Shiva, symbolizing 'Pancha Bakram Tri Netram,' representing the five different facial expressions of Lord Shiva and his powerful third eye. Inside, the temple exudes a sense of peace and spirituality, with priests offering blessings to visitors. The temple holds special significance during the Shivratri festival in February and March, celebrated with great enthusiasm. From the temple grounds, visitors can enjoy stunning views of the surrounding hills, green valleys, and the Kanchenjunga range.Dhirdham Temple is located just below the Darjeeling Railway Station. Photography is permitted outside the temple, but cameras are not allowed inside. 'Aarti' (prayers) take place daily at 8 am and 6 pm.
