The Historic Prison within Makassar Fort

Getting There

• Walking

  If you are starting from the iconic Losari Beach, head east along the coast on Jl. Penghibur. Continue walking for about 1 kilometer until you reach the intersection with Jl. Somba Opu. Turn left onto Jl. Somba Opu and walk straight for another 500 meters. You will see the entrance to Fort Rotterdam on your right. Enter the fort, and once inside, head towards the northern section where you will find the Prisão dentro do Forte de Makassar.

• Public Transportation (Becak)

  You can take a becak (a traditional pedicab) from your hotel or current location in Makassar. Simply tell the driver 'Fort Rotterdam' or show them the address VC84+43H, Bulo Gading, Ujung Pandang. The ride should take around 10-15 minutes depending on traffic. Upon arrival, pay the driver and head into the fort, then make your way to the northern section for the Prisão.

• Public Transportation (Angkot)

  Catch an angkot (public mini-bus) heading towards the city center. You can find angkots at various stops throughout Makassar. Make sure to board one that goes to 'Bulo Gading' or 'Fort Rotterdam' direction. After about 20 minutes, get off near the fort and walk towards the entrance. Once inside the fort, navigate to the northern part to find the Prisão.

• Taxi

  Hail a local taxi and inform the driver that you want to go to Fort Rotterdam. Show them the address VC84+43H, Bulo Gading, Ujung Pandang if needed. The taxi ride can take approximately 10-20 minutes based on traffic. Upon arriving, pay the fare, enter the fort, and follow the path to the northern area where the Prisão is located.
