Getting There

  • Car

    If you are traveling by car, you can start your journey from Surabaya, which is approximately 3 to 4 hours away from Mt Bromo. Take the Jl. Tol Surabaya - Gempol to reach Pasuruan and then follow signs to Probolinggo. Once in Probolinggo, take the route to Bromo through the village of Tosari. Park your car at the designated area near the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park entrance. Note that there is an entrance fee of IDR 220,000 on weekdays and IDR 320,000 on weekends.

  • Public Transportation

    For those using public transportation, take a bus from Surabaya to Probolinggo. The journey takes about 2 to 3 hours. Once in Probolinggo, transfer to a minibus (often called 'angkot') heading to Cemoro Lawang, which is the closest village to Mt Bromo. The minibus ride will take about 1 hour. After reaching Cemoro Lawang, you can either hike to the viewpoint or hire a local jeep (around IDR 300,000 to IDR 500,000 for a round trip) to take you to the sunrise viewpoint and back.

    From Cemoro Lawang, if you prefer not to hike, you can hire a local jeep to take you up to Penanjakan viewpoint for sunrise.
