From the Dubuque Intermodal Transportation Center, take the Jule Public Transit bus route 4 towards the Dubuque Industrial Center. Stay on the bus for about 20 minutes and get off at the stop on Volunteer Drive. From there, it's a short walk (about 0.5 miles) to US Lock and Dam No. 11. Head north on Volunteer Drive, and follow the signs toward the lock and dam.

If you prefer to bike, you can rent a bike from one of the local shops in Dubuque. Start at the Dubuque Riverwalk and head northwest along the riverfront. Follow the river trail until you reach Volunteer Drive. Turn left on Volunteer Drive and continue for about 1 mile until you reach US Lock and Dam No. 11.
