If you're traveling by car, navigate to Spirit Lake, IA. From the center of Spirit Lake, take Highway 71 South. After approximately 3 miles, turn left onto 240th Street. Continue straight until you reach the intersection with S Templar Drive. Turn right onto S Templar Drive, and the entrance to Templar State Recreation Area will be on your right after about 0.5 miles. There is no entrance fee for the park.

Once you arrive in Spirit Lake, you may need to use a rideshare service like Uber or Lyft to reach Templar State Recreation Area, as local bus services may not operate directly to the park. If you're staying near the downtown area of Spirit Lake and prefer to walk, it's about a 2-hour walk to Templar State Recreation Area. Head south on Highway 71 from the downtown area. Be cautious of traffic, but there are sidewalks for most of the route. Once you reach 240th Street, turn left and then right onto S Templar Drive to arrive at the park entrance.
