Al-Sahla Great Mosque, also known as Masjid as-Sahlah, stands as one of the most historically significant mosques in Kufa, Iraq. Established in the 7th century, it is approximately 2 kilometers northwest of the Great Mosque of Kufa. This revered site holds a special place in Shia Islam, as it is believed to be the future home of the twelfth Imam, Hujjat-Allah al-Mahdi, upon his reappearance.Throughout history, Al-Sahla Mosque has undergone numerous reconstructions, with notable renovations in 1349/1350 CE and extensive work between 2011 and 2018. The mosque covers an area of 17,500 square meters and is enclosed by a high fence with semi-circular towers. Seventeen entrances lead into the mosque, with the main entrance located on the southern side. The mosque also features a single minaret on the eastern side.Al-Sahla Mosque is not only a place of prayer but also a site associated with several prophets and imams. It is believed to contain shrines dedicated to Imam Ja'afar Bin Mohammad As-Sadiq, Prophet Abraham, Prophet Idris, Prophet Al-Kidher and others. Many Shia Muslims believe that performing two Rakats of Islamic Prayer within the mosque grants safety and protection for an entire year. The mosque is seen as a sanctuary for those seeking solace and blessings.
