The Al-Shaheed Monument, also known as the Martyr's Memorial, stands as a powerful symbol in Baghdad, commemorating the sacrifices of Iraqi soldiers, particularly those who fell during the Iran-Iraq War (1980-1988). The two halves of the dome are offset, with an eternal flame burning in the space between them. This design is meant to evoke the vault of heaven, a sacred symbol in Islam.
