Allow approximately 15-20 minutes to reach the main trail from Warrens Fields. There are no costs associated with accessing the trail on foot.
Public Transport
From Athlone town centre, take a local bus towards Garrycastle. Alight at a stop near the Whitegates entrance to the Old Rail Trail. Check local bus schedules for accurate timings and routes. A single bus fare within Athlone typically costs around €2-€3. From the bus stop, it's a short walk to the trail entrance.
Driving
If driving, approach Warrens Fields, Athlone. Limited free parking is available at the Whitegates entrance. From the town centre, follow signs for the Old Rail Trail. Be aware that parking can be limited during peak season. No tolls are applicable on the approach. As an alternative, parking is available in Athlone town centre, with hourly rates of approximately €2-€3, and then walk or cycle to the trailhead.
