From Athlone Town Centre, head northeast towards Church Street. Continue straight until you reach the junction with the R446. Turn right onto the R446 and walk for about 10 minutes. You will see the River Shannon on your left as you approach the riverside area. Look for signs indicating Riverside Tours, which should be along the riverbank. The walk is generally flat and takes about 15-20 minutes. There is no cost for walking.

Buses A1 and A2 run across town from Monksland in the west via the bus and railway station, town centre, Golden Island Shopping Centre and Athlone Institute of Technology, to Creggan Court in the east. They run every 15 minutes, Monday to Saturday and every 30 min on Sundays and public holidays. Get off at a stop near the town center and follow walking directions to the riverside.
