Getting There

From Athlone Town Centre, head south towards the River Shannon. Cross the bridge over the river and turn left onto the riverside path. Continue walking along the riverbank, enjoying the scenic views. After approximately 15 minutes, you will see signs for the Shannon Banks Walk. Follow these signs to your right, and you will soon arrive at The Golden Mile, which is a beautiful stretch along the river. There is no cost for accessing the Golden Mile.

Public Transport
From Athlone Town Centre, walk to the nearest bus stop located on Church Street. Take a Bus Éireann A1 or A2 that is heading towards Ranelagh or any bus that mentions the Shannon Banks area. Ask the bus driver to let you know when you reach the stop for The Golden Mile. Once you get off the bus, follow the path along the river which leads you directly to The Golden Mile. A single adult fare is approximately €2.00, but a TFI Leap Card reduces the fare to €1.50.
