The Ennistymon Cascades, also known as Ennistymon Falls, are a unique urban waterfall situated on the River Inagh in the heart of Ennistymon, the largest town in North Clare. The falls have been modified over time to harness their power, adding to their distinctive character. The best views can be seen by walking through the arch by Byrne's Inn.
Ennistymon itself is a charming market town known for its traditional shopfronts and vibrant culture. The town has a rich history, dating back to its establishment in 1588. Visitors can explore the Courthouse Gallery & Studios for contemporary art or visit the Famine Memorial Park. The 5km Ennistymon Historic Town Walk explores the town's origins.
The Falls Hotel, originally the residence of the McNamara family, offers excellent views of the cascades from its lounge bar. The hotel even uses the river's power for its own hydroelectric turbine, making it carbon neutral.
Located close to other popular attractions such as the Cliffs of Moher and the Burren, Ennistymon is an ideal base for exploring County Clare.

Getting There
Walking
If you are already in Ennistymon town center, you can easily walk to the Cascades. Head northeast along Main Street, then take a left onto R478. Continue on R478 for approximately 1 kilometer to reach the Cascades. The walk is scenic and will take approximately 15-20 minutes. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes as the path may be uneven.
Public Transport
To reach Ennistymon Cascades by public transport, take a bus from Ennis to Ennistymon. Bus Éireann operates on this route. The journey takes about 30-40 minutes. When you arrive at the Ennistymon bus stop, exit the bus and walk towards the town center. From the bus stop, head northeast along Main Street, then take a left onto R478. Continue on R478 for approximately 1 kilometer to reach the Cascades. A single fare will cost approximately €5-€8.
Car
If you're driving from Ennis, take the N85 road towards Lahinch. Continue on the N85 for approximately 20 kilometers. As you approach Ennistymon, watch for signs directing you to the town center. Once in Ennistymon, follow the main street (Main Street), and look for a left turn onto the R478. Continue on R478 for about 1 kilometer until you reach the parking area near the Ennistymon Cascades. There are many different parking options (both free and paid). A new 24-hour car park has recently opened on Monastery Lane. Parking fees may vary depending on the location.
