However, it was Lady Augusta Gregory, wife of William Henry Gregory, who transformed it into a vibrant hub for the Irish Literary Revival in the early 20th century. Renowned writers such as W.B. Yeats, George Bernard Shaw, John Millington Synge, and Sean O'Casey frequented Coole Park, finding inspiration in its serene landscapes. Many of these literary figures left their mark by carving their initials into the Autograph Tree, a copper beech that still stands in the walled garden.Visitors can explore the extensive grounds, which feature diverse ecosystems, including woodlands and seasonal lakes known as turloughs. Six kilometers of signposted nature trails wind through the park, offering opportunities to discover its natural wonders. The "Family Trail" is an easy 1.75 km walk, while the "Seven Woods Trail" is a 4.5 km trail connecting the different woods made famous by W.B. Yeats in his poems.While Coole House, the former Gregory residence, was demolished in 1941, the legacy of Coole Park as a center for Irish arts and culture endures.
