Car
If you are traveling by car, start from the center of Donegal Bay. Take the N15 road towards Letterkenny. Approximately 24 km from Donegal town, take the exit onto the R245 towards Fanad Head. Follow the R245 for about 23 km, then turn left onto the R266. Continue for another 10 km until you reach the signs for Fanad Head Lighthouse. There is a designated parking area near the lighthouse. Be prepared for a scenic drive with stunning views of the coast.
Public Transportation
For those using public transport, take a bus from Donegal town to Letterkenny (Bus Eireann or Local Link services). From Letterkenny, you may need to switch to a local bus service, such as the 'Fanad Head' bus that operates seasonally. Confirm the schedule in advance, as services may be limited. Once you arrive at the stop closest to the lighthouse, it will be about a 3 km walk to reach Fanad Head, so wear comfortable shoes and be prepared for a walk along rural roads.
Taxi
If you prefer a more direct route without a car, consider hiring a taxi from Donegal town or Letterkenny. This will provide a convenient and flexible way to reach Fanad Head Lighthouse. Ensure to agree on a price beforehand, as rates may vary and it could cost around €50-€70 for a round trip, depending on the starting point.
