Discover more about Bioparco dei Frignoli

The Bioparco dei Frignoli, situated at 900 meters above sea level in the Appennino Tosco-Emiliano National Park, offers a refreshing escape into nature. This diverse park is divided into several natural areas, with a focus on preserving and showcasing the region's rich biodiversity. The heart of the Bioparco is its botanical garden, home to over 600 species of flowers and plants from the Apuan Alps and Apennine Mountains. Visitors can discover natural edible herbs, learn about toxic plants, and admire a unique collection of peonies. The garden was established in 1932 as a nursery of the State Forestry Corps. In 1990, it became a provincial botanical garden. Today, the garden includes an arboretum containing about one hundred species of woody plants from the Apuan Alps, Apennine Mountains, and Mediterranean regions. Its plantings reproduce various mountain environments, as well as local food plants and natural areas. Beyond the botanical garden, the Bioparco offers other attractions, including a breeding program for Apennine trout and river prawns, a river terrarium for trout and native amphibians, and the "Lo Scoiattolo" acrobatic path, where both children and adults can explore the park from the treetops in complete safety. The park also features the Cinque Foreste trails, which wind through different types of fir, beech, and oak forests. Visitors can enjoy picnics in designated areas, find shelter, and savor local produce. **Note:** The Bioparco dei Frignoli is temporarily closed due to technical issues. Contact the Unione di Comuni Montana Lunigiana for information.
