Discover more about Torre di Capo d'Uomo

The Torre di Capo d'Uomo is a coastal tower located in the municipality of Monte Argentario, about 350 meters above sea level. It sits atop a hill on the western side of the Argentario promontory, roughly halfway between Porto Santo Stefano and Porto Ercole. Originally constructed in medieval times, likely by the Aldobrandeschi family, the tower became part of the Republic of Siena before being integrated into the defensive network of the State of the Presidi in the 16th century. It served as a crucial link in the communication chain, relaying light signals between Torre di Cala Piccola and Torre della Maddalena. Abandoned in the 19th century, the tower fell into disrepair due to its remote location and exposure to the elements. Today, the ruins of the Torre di Capo d'Uomo offer a glimpse into the past. Visitors can explore the remains of the quadrangular base and the external stone walls. The site also includes remnants of an adjacent building, its original purpose now unknown. From the tower's hilltop vantage point, the views stretch along the Maremma coast, encompassing the islands of Giglio and Giannutri, and on clear days, even Corsica. The area is also known for its climbing opportunities and natural pool.
