Discover more about Casa Vasari

Casa Vasari, located on Borgo Santa Croce in Florence, was once the Florentine residence of Giorgio Vasari, the celebrated painter, architect, and art historian of the Renaissance. Cosimo I de' Medici granted the house to Vasari in 1561 as a sign of gratitude for his service. Similar to his house in Arezzo, Vasari, with the help of his collaborators, frescoed various rooms around 1572, with the Great Hall being the only one that remains almost intact. After Vasari's death in 1574, the house passed to his heirs. It was later purchased by the Morrocchi family in the 19th century. The palace is listed as a monumental building to be considered national artistic heritage since 1901. The Great Hall was restored between 2009-2011 and has been open to the public since 2011 by reservation through the ticket office of the nearby Museo Horne. Visitors can admire the valuable cycle of frescoes in the hall, conceived and created by Vasari with the help of his pupils. The frescoes offer insights into Vasari's artistic style and the cultural context of the late Renaissance. Casa Vasari provides a unique opportunity to step back in time and experience the world of a prominent Renaissance artist.
