Discover more about Palazzo Conte Federico - Museum

Palazzo Conte Federico stands as one of Palermo's oldest and most prestigious buildings, located between Piazza Conte Federico and Via dei Biscottari. Its origins trace back to the 12th century, with an Arab-Norman tower that once served as a defense mechanism for the city. The tower, known as the "Casket Tower," also acted as the entrance to the port of Busuemi. Over the centuries, the palace has been expanded and modified, showcasing a blend of architectural styles. In the 17th century, the Federico family acquired the palace, and Count Gaspare Federico and Balsamo initiated its transformation into its current form. Later, Count Nicolò Federico and Opezzinga commissioned many of the exquisite decorations that adorn the palace. Today, visitors can explore the palace through guided tours led by Count Alessandro Federico and his family, who still reside there. The grand halls feature original furniture, artwork, and ornate decorations, reflecting the opulence of the Sicilian nobility. Admire the 17th-century painted wooden ceilings, 18th-century frescoes by Vito D'Anna and Gaspare Serenario, and collections of weapons and antique ceramics. The palace also boasts a courtyard decorated in carved stone by the Baroque architect Venanzio Marvuglia.
