Walking
If you are starting from the Colosseum, exit the Colosseum through the main entrance. Head northwest on Via di San Giovanni in Laterano towards Piazza di San Giovanni in Laterano. Continue straight until you reach Piazza Venezia, where you will see the impressive Altare della Patria (Altar of the Fatherland). From Piazza Venezia, take the stairs down to Via di San Marco and follow the street until you reach a large set of stairs on your left. This is the Ara Coeli Staircase, leading to the Basilica di Santa Maria in Ara Coeli.

Public Transport
If you are coming from Vatican City, walk to the Ottaviano metro station (Line A). Take the metro towards Anagnina and get off at the Termini station. Transfer to Line B towards Laurentina and get off at the Colosseo station. Exit the station and follow the instructions above to reach the Ara Coeli Staircase.

From the Pantheon, walk southeast on Via della Rotonda, then turn left onto Via del Seminario. Continue straight, and you will reach Piazza Venezia. Follow the same steps from Piazza Venezia to reach the Ara Coeli Staircase.

If you are near Termini Station, take Bus 64 towards Stazione St. Pietro. Get off at the stop called 'Piazza Venezia.' From there, follow the directions to the Ara Coeli Staircase as described above.
