The gate's name, chosen from public submissions, reflects the desire for continued prosperity over the next 1,000 years, acknowledging Hakata's long history.Constructed with meticulous attention to detail, the gate incorporates a 1,000-year-old camphor tree donated by Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine, symbolizing the connection between Hakata and its historical roots. The lintel features carvings inspired by Hakata-ori textile patterns, a traditional craft of the region. The gate is built in the style of medieval Hakata architecture, reminiscent of the old Tsujidoguchi-mon Gate.Located a short walk from Hakata Station, the Hakata Sennen-no-Mon Gate serves as an emblematic entry point to the culturally rich area. Passing through the gate, visitors can explore nearby temples and historical sites, immersing themselves in Hakata's traditions and culture. Getting There
Walking
From Hakata Station, exit through the Chikushi Exit and head towards Hakata Ekimae, the main road. Walk straight for about 10 minutes, passing shops and cafes. Look for the intersection with a large electronics store on your right. The gate is located at 1 Chome-7-29-9 Hakata Ekimae, just past the intersection.
Public Transport
Take the Fukuoka City Subway to Gion Station. From Gion Station, the Hakata Sennen-no-Mon Gate is a 5-minute walk. Subway fares vary depending on the distance traveled. A one-day subway pass is available for ¥640 for adults and ¥320 for children, offering unlimited rides on all three lines.
Taxi
Taxis are readily available outside Hakata Station. A taxi ride from Hakata Station to the gate will take approximately 5-10 minutes, depending on traffic. The fare is approximately ¥700-¥1000. Note that fares may increase during late-night hours.
