Kurume Forest Tsutsuji Park is a vibrant oasis of natural beauty located in Kurume City, Fukuoka Prefecture. The park is home to over 60,000 azaleas representing approximately 100 different species, including the Kurume azalea, which is specific to the region and designated as Fukuoka's prefectural tree.The park's origins trace back to the efforts of Motozou Sakamoto, a retainer of the Kurume clan, who pioneered hybridization techniques in the 19th century. Sakamoto's work led to the development of numerous Kurume azalea cultivars, which were later introduced to the world.
