Yusentei Park: A Tranquil Escape in Fukuoka

Yusentei Park, located in Fukuoka's Jonan Ward, is a historical Japanese garden offering a tranquil escape from the city bustle. Constructed in 1754 as a secondary residence for Kuroda Tsugutaka, the 6th lord of Fukuoka, the park exemplifies the traditional 'chisen kaiyu-shiki' (pond-stroll style) garden. It opened to the public in 1981 and was designated as a place of scenic beauty by Fukuoka City in 1998.The garden features a central pond, fed by the Hii River, with winding paths that lead visitors through meticulously arranged landscapes. Lush trees, including maple and Japanese pine, moss-covered rocks, stone lanterns, and small waterfalls create a serene atmosphere. Koi carp swim in the pond, adding to the picturesque scenery. In autumn, the maple trees' red foliage provides a spectacular display.The park includes a large tatami-style tea pavilion, where visitors can enjoy matcha tea and traditional sweets while overlooking the pond. The Ohiroma hall offers a spacious area to relax and appreciate the garden views. There are also two tea rooms, Josui-an and Shozan-an, which can be booked for private events. Yusentei Park provides a unique opportunity to experience Japanese culture and appreciate the beauty of nature.
