Getting There

Walking
From JR Saga-Arashiyama Station, exit and turn right. Walk straight for about 10-15 minutes, following signs for Tenryu-ji Temple. Pass through the main street lined with shops and restaurants. The entrance to the bamboo grove is near the north gate of Tenryu-ji Temple. There is no entrance fee for the bamboo grove itself. Note that the path can be crowded, especially during peak hours.

From Kyoto Station, take the JR Sagano/San-in Line to Saga-Arashiyama Station (approximately 15-20 minutes, ¥240). Alternatively, take Kyoto City Bus #28 and alight at the Arashiyama-Tenryuji Mae bus stop (approximately 30 minutes, ¥230), which is right by Tenryu-ji Temple and the entrance to the bamboo grove. Note that buses can be subject to traffic delays.

From Kyoto Station, take a taxi to Arashiyama Bamboo Grove. The ride takes approximately 15 minutes and costs around ¥4,500 - ¥5,500. Taxis are readily available at Kyoto Station.
