Goroyama Park: History and Nature Combined

This ancient burial mound, also known as Gorōyama Kofun (五郎山古墳), is a designated National Historic Site of Japan.The Goroyama Kofun is known for its decorated interior, featuring over 80 mural paintings in red, black, and green. These murals depict various aspects of life during the Kofun period, including people, ships, horses, houses, and geometric patterns. Although some of the paintings have faded over time, they still offer valuable insights into the beliefs and artistic practices of the people who lived in this region centuries ago.Visitors can explore the burial chamber, which consists of a passage, an anterior chamber, and a posterior chamber. The Goroyama Kofun Museum on-site displays replicas of the paintings and provides an observation room with a view into the mound.
