Car
If you are driving, start from the center of Hitachi city and head southeast on Route 6 (Kantō Road). Follow the signs for the Joban Expressway and merge onto it. Continue on the Joban Expressway for about 30 kilometers. Take Exit 16 towards Tsuchiura, and follow the signs towards Tokyo. As you approach Tokyo, stay in the right lanes to merge onto Route 6 towards Ueno/Taito City. Once in Taito City, look for Nishiasakusa area, where Higashi Hongan-ji is located at 1 Chome-5-5 Nishiasakusa. Parking is available nearby.

Public Transportation
To reach Higashi Hongan-ji using public transport, start at Hitachi Station. Take the JR Joban Line to Toride Station, which takes about 20 minutes. From Toride Station, transfer to the Tsukuba Express Line and head towards Akihabara. Get off at Asakusa Station. From Asakusa Station, take exit A1 and walk straight for about 10 minutes. Follow the signs towards Higashi Hongan-ji, located at 1 Chome-5-5 Nishiasakusa, Taito City. The temple is visible once you reach Nishiasakusa.
