Getting There

Car
If you're driving from Sapporo, take the Hokkaido Expressway (道央自動車道) towards Kushiro. The journey will take approximately 4-5 hours (around 280 km). Once you reach Kushiro, take Route 241, which leads directly to Akan-Mashu National Park. Follow the signs for 'Akan Lake' (阿寒湖) and you will arrive at the park entrance. Be sure to have some cash on hand for tolls, which can total around 2,000 JPY.

Public Transportation (Train and Bus)
From Sapporo Station, take the Limited Express 'Super Ozora' train towards Kushiro Station. The train ride takes about 4 hours. Once at Kushiro Station, transfer to the Akan Bus (阿寒バス) that will take you directly to Akan-Mashu National Park. The bus departs approximately every hour and the journey takes around 1.5 hours. A one-way train ticket costs about 8,000 JPY and the bus fare is around 1,500 JPY.

If you're flying into Kushiro Airport, take the airport limousine bus to Kushiro Station (approximately 45 minutes, 1,500 JPY). From Kushiro Station, follow the instructions above to transfer to the Akan Bus to reach Akan-Mashu National Park.
