Discover more about Jogasaki Coast

The Jogasaki Coast is a captivating nine-kilometer stretch of rugged coastline on the eastern side of the Izu Peninsula, near Ito. Its origins trace back approximately 4,000 years to the eruption of Mount Omuro, a nearby volcano. As lava flowed into the sea, it cooled and solidified, creating the unique and dramatic rock formations that define the area today. This geological history has earned the Jogasaki Coast a place within the Izu Peninsula Geopark. The coastline offers several well-maintained hiking trails, catering to various fitness levels. The main trail spans the entire nine-kilometer stretch, offering both inland routes through wooded areas and coastal paths that hug the cliff line. Along these trails, you'll encounter several noteworthy attractions, including the Kadowaki Suspension Bridge, a 23-meter-long bridge suspended 48 meters above the water, providing spectacular views. Nearby, the Kadowaki Lighthouse offers panoramic vistas of the coastline and, on clear days, views of Izu Oshima Island. The Jogasaki Coast is also a biodiversity hotspot, with diverse marine life and vibrant coral communities. The area's unique ecosystem attracts nature lovers and researchers alike. The coast is accessible year-round, with spring and autumn offering the most pleasant weather for hiking. In June, hydrangeas bloom, followed by orange daylilies and lilies in July, and sea daisies and Japanese butterburs in autumn.
