Car
If you are driving from Kai, head southeast on Route 20 towards Kofu. Continue on Route 20 for approximately 30 km until you reach the junction with Route 52. Take the exit towards Route 52 and merge onto it. Continue on Route 52 for about 30 km until you reach the exit for Tanabe. Follow the signs towards Tanabe City center, and then follow signs for Kumano Hongu Taisha. The shrine is located at 1110 Hongucho Hongu, Tanabe, Wakayama. There is parking available near the shrine, but be aware that parking fees may apply, generally around 500-1000 yen for a day.

Public Transportation - Train and Bus
From Kai, take the JR Chuo Line to Kofu Station. At Kofu Station, transfer to the JR Minobu Line and take a train towards Minobu. Get off at Minobu Station. From Minobu Station, take the Nankai Bus towards Kumano Hongu Taisha. The bus ride will take about 70 minutes. Make sure to check the bus schedule in advance as it may not run frequently. The fare for the bus is approximately 1,200 yen one way. Once you arrive at the Kumano Hongu Taisha bus stop, the shrine is just a short walk away.

Alternatively, from Kofu Station, you can catch a direct bus to Kumano Hongu Taisha operated by the Nankai Bus service. This bus service is more convenient as it takes you directly to the shrine without needing to transfer. The journey will take about 2 to 2.5 hours depending on traffic conditions. Check the bus schedule as there are limited departures, and the fare is around 2,500 yen one way.
