Foxes, considered Inari's messengers, are prominent throughout the grounds, often depicted with keys to granaries in their mouths. The shrine's most iconic feature is the Senbon Torii, thousands of vermilion torii gates that create a seemingly endless tunnel winding up Mount Inari. The tradition of donating torii dates back to the Edo period, with the vermilion color symbolizing vitality and protection against evil. The ascent to the summit of Mount Inari, a 233-meter peak, takes approximately 2-3 hours.
