    Discover more about Tokyo Skytree

The Tokyo Skytree, completed in 2012, has quickly become an iconic landmark in Tokyo. Standing at 634 meters (2,080 feet), it is the tallest structure in Japan and was the second-tallest in the world at the time of its completion. The Skytree primarily functions as a broadcasting tower, ensuring digital television coverage for the Kanto region, but it also offers visitors a variety of attractions, including two observation decks with stunning 360-degree views. The tower's design blends modern aesthetics with traditional Japanese elements. Its height of 634 meters was deliberately chosen because the pronunciation of these numbers in old Japanese sounds like "Musashi," an old name for the region where the Skytree stands. The tower's unique shape, with smooth curves reminiscent of a Japanese sword, is both visually appealing and structurally sound, designed to withstand earthquakes and strong winds. The Tokyo Skytree features two primary observation decks: the Tembo Deck at 350 meters and the Tembo Galleria at 450 meters. The Tembo Deck spans three levels and offers panoramic views of Tokyo through floor-to-ceiling windows. One section of the Tembo Deck has a glass floor, providing a thrilling perspective directly down to the streets below. The Tembo Galleria features a sloping spiral ramp that allows visitors to ascend gradually while enjoying ever-changing views of the city. The highest point of the observation deck, Sorakara Point, sits at 451.2 meters and offers the ultimate view of Tokyo. At the base of the Skytree lies Tokyo Skytree Town, a large shopping complex with over 300 shops and restaurants. Here, visitors can find everything from souvenirs and local sweets to fashion and electronics. Other attractions in the area include the Sumida Aquarium and the Planetarium Tenku.
