Car
If you are driving from central Tokyo, take the Tohoku Expressway (E4) towards Utsunomiya. After about 100 km, take the exit toward Nikko. Follow the signs for Route 119 towards Nikko, and then continue on Route 122 until you reach Tokorono, Nikko. Makkura Falls is a short drive from the main road, and you can park in the designated parking area nearby. Note that parking may incur a small fee.
Train
Start your journey by taking the JR Tohoku Shinkansen from Tokyo Station to Utsunomiya Station. The ride takes approximately 50 minutes. From Utsunomiya Station, transfer to the JR Nikko Line and take a train to Nikko Station. This leg of the journey will take around 45 minutes. Once you arrive at Nikko Station, you can take a local bus to Makkura Falls. The bus ride will take about 30 minutes, and be sure to check the bus schedule ahead of time for exact departure times.
Bus
If you prefer to start from Shinjuku, you can take an express bus from Shinjuku Bus Terminal directly to Nikko. The bus ride takes about 2 hours and 30 minutes. Once you arrive in Nikko, follow the local transportation options to reach Makkura Falls. You may need to take a taxi or local bus from the bus terminal to the falls, which is a 15-minute ride.
