Getting there

Car

If you are driving, take the Tohoku Expressway from Tokyo towards Nikko. Exit at the Nikko IC and follow the signs for Route 120. Drive for about 30 minutes until you reach Ashiomachi. Look for signs directing you to the Mt. Hangetsu Observation Deck. There is a parking area near the observation deck, which is free of charge.

Train

For those using public transportation, take the Tobu Nikko Line from Asakusa Station in Tokyo to Tobu Nikko Station. The journey takes about 2 hours and costs approximately ¥2,700. From Tobu Nikko Station, take a bus bound for Hangetsu Kogen. The bus ride takes about 30 minutes and costs around ¥700. Get off at the Hangetsu Kogen stop, and from there, it is a short 20-minute walk to the Mt. Hangetsu Observation Deck.

Bus

Alternatively, if you are already in the Nikko area, you can take a local bus from Nikko Station to the Hangetsu Kogen stop. The bus ride takes about 30 minutes and costs approximately ¥700. Once you arrive at the Hangetsu Kogen stop, follow the walking path leading to the observation deck, which takes about 20 minutes to hike up.
